Parametric Design for Manufacturing
Hrulabs builds 3D models that are not only geometrically correct, but manufacturable and maintainable. A model is only finished when someone else can pick it up, change a parameter, and get a part that still works.
We work entirely in open-source tools. You receive files you can open and edit without buying a licence.
CAD Capabilities
Parametric Solid Modelling
3D parametric models built in FreeCAD. Design intent is captured through constraints and parameters — not hard-coded geometry — so modifications propagate cleanly instead of forcing a redraw.
Assemblies
Multi-part assemblies checked for fit and interference before anything is made.
Code-Driven Geometry
Where a design is governed by rules rather than by drawing, we build the model as code — OpenSCAD or Python generators using the FreeCAD API — so that geometry is generated from requirements and regenerates when they change. See AI & Agents for how far this approach goes.
Technical Drawings
2D drawings produced from the model in FreeCAD — views, sections, dimensions, and tolerances.
Design for Manufacturing
Models are prepared for how the part will actually be made. For 3D printing, that means print orientation, support strategy, and wall-thickness review. For parts made elsewhere, it means reviewing the model against the supplier's process before it is handed over.
Deliverables
- Native FreeCAD files and OpenSCAD / Python source where the model is code-driven
- Neutral exports: STEP and STL
- PDF and DXF drawings
